The ASC is an independent not-for-profit organisation. Founded in 2009, it manages the global standards for responsible aquaculture developed by the Aquaculture Dialogues, a programme of round tables initiated and coordinated by WWF.

“I look forward to the work as a member of the Supervisory Board in ASC. Being involved in an organisation such as this will provide insight and understanding of a variety of environmental issues relating to various aquaculture species,” says Knut Nesse. “Now that Skretting is expanding its operations in Asia, it will be useful experience for me to gain insight into the environmental issues relating to aquaculture species there, such as shrimp.”

“We are delighted to know that Knut Nesse has formally accepted to be our new ASC Supervisory Board member. The existing Supervisory Board unanimously decided to take him in as the fifth member,” says José R. Villalón, chairman of the Supervisory Board of the ASC.

Working with partners all over the world, the ASC will run an ambitious programme to transform the world’s seafood markets and promote the best environmental and social aquaculture performance. The ASC standards seek to increase the availability of certified sustainable seafood. The organisation will launch a credible consumer label that assures compliance and will make it easy for everyone to take part.
